A Parable For The Times

The naturalist Chris Packham was giving a talk in the village hall. The room was crowded, and he was working hard to win everyone to his cause.

He was doing well until a comment from the audience compared bird eggs to human abortions. Packham openly scoffed at the comparison – at which point he started to lose the audience. One by one, people rose from their seats and clustered at the exit. Most of them were young adults, and all of them were anti-abortionists.

And that was when I came rushing into the hall, cradling a clutch of white hen’s eggs in my arms.
